The main road through the centre of Lynfield is 'The Avenue', with many roads branching off, including Halsey Drive, the suburb's longest street, which curves around a large portion of the inner suburb.
The local primary school is Halsey Drive Primary School, which is situated opposite the Lynfield Reserve on Halsey Drive. The suburb has a local shopping centre which consists of a Countdown supermarket, a large pub known as Doolan Brothers, Wendy's, Shor Bazaar Indian Cuisine, KFC, Subway and Pizza Hut fast food restaurants, an NZ Postshop, florist, doctor's clinic and pharmacy among other stores including a smaller pub and a few smaller eateries. An ASB Bank branch and a Westpac ATM are also located within the complex. The shopping complex is on a corner site, on the corner of Hillsborough Rd and The Avenue. Behind the shops, there is a concrete skateboard facility, one of the most popular bowls in New Zealand, it has been frequented by some of the best skaters in the world. See "lynfieldryda" on YouTube to see many videos filmed here.
Further up The Avenue is the local church, Lynfield Community Church. This is an inter-denominational church that meets every Sunday at 9:30am and runs programs for children. There is a locally run playgroup for toddlers and their parents on Tuesday mornings.
==History==
The suburb of Lynfield has only been closely settled since the 1950s. The important economic activity of raising poultry was developed. This farm provided table fowls and eggs for the Auckland Area. The original name for the farm was Linfield.
Alfred Bankhart established Linfield on land gifted to him by Sir Logan Campbell. Gilletta Road in Lynfield was named after Bankheart's wife's maiden name.
Two gentlemen named Edwards and Cooper grew strawberries on the land now owned by Lynfield College. Thus the Symbol of the plough on their Logo. Eventually in the mid-1950s, the land was made available to make way for a new secondary school which is now Lynfield College.
